Join Our Team as a Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery
We are actively seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse to join our Labor & Delivery unit in Eureka, CA. Shift & Schedule
- Night Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:00 – 6:30)
Requirements & Skills
- Minimum of 1 year nursing experience
- Patient ratio experience: 1:1 to 1:3
- Proficiency with Epic charting system (required)
- Current certifications: ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate, BLS, NRP
- IV therapy and phlebotomy skills:
- Administration of blood & blood products
- Drawing venous blood (required)
- Maintenance of central lines (CVC/PICC) (required)
- Starting and maintaining IVs, infusion pumps, drips, and IV monitoring
- Labor & Delivery Management:
- Amnioinfusion
- Assist with high-risk and vaginal deliveries
- Circulate for C-section
- Forceps/vacuum extraction (required)
- Management of hemorrhage and shock (required)
- Recovery post C-Section and sterile vaginal exams
- Work settings experience including Antepartum, High Risk Antepartum, Labor & Delivery, LDRP, Mother/Baby with facility births >300 per month (required)
- Medication administration expertise including insulin drips (required), prostaglandins (required), anticoagulation therapy, antihypertensives, antiseizure medications, magnesium sulfate, pitocin, and terbutaline
- Neonatal care competencies:
- APGAR scoring
- “Baby Catcher” experience
- Collection of cord samples (required)
- ID/security banding
- Use of radiant warmers and thermoregulation
- Antepartum care procedures including assisting with amniocentesis (required), sterile speculum exams, OCT (Oxytocin Challenge Tests) (required), fetal monitoring, and obstetrical triage (required)
- Newborn care such as assisting with circumcision and site assessment post-op (required), metabolic screening (required), neonatal abstinence syndrome management (required), parental education for circumcision care (required), and thermoregulation
- Postpartum care skills including baby-friendly protocols (required), breastfeeding/lactation support, wound and episiotomy care, fundus/lochia/perineum assessment
- Experience with surgical procedures such as cervical cerclage and D&C (required)
- Comprehensive postpartum patient care including Cesarean section recovery, couplet care, multiple births, postpartum hemorrhage, and pregnancy-induced hypertension
- Pain management skills including epidural anesthesia, general anesthesia (required), IV conscious sedation (required), nitrous oxide, PCA use, and pain assessments
- Cardiac monitoring expertise with dysrhythmia interpretation (required)
- Professional skills including isolation precautions/PPE and vaccine administration
- Fetal monitoring abilities including recognition/treatment of abnormal fetal heart patterns, spiral electrode placement (required), use of external and internal fetal monitoring, and use/calibration of intrauterine pressure catheters (IUPC)
- No travel experience required
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to antepartum, laboring, delivery, and postpartum patients in a high-acuity setting
- Coordinate and assist in labor and delivery procedures including high-risk deliveries and Cesarean sections
- Administer medications and therapies safely following established protocols
- Perform neonatal assessments including APGAR scoring, cord sampling, and provide immediate newborn care
- Operate and monitor infusion pumps, fetal monitoring systems, and maintain central lines proficiently
- Educate and support mothers and families through all stages of perinatal care including breastfeeding support, discharge teachings, and newborn care instructions
- Recognize and respond to obstetrical emergencies including hemorrhage, shock, and fetal distress
- Maintain compliance with all safety, infection control, and documentation standards via the Epic charting system
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated and high-quality patient-centered care
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in California
- Minimum 1 year of relevant nursing experience in Labor & Delivery
- Current certifications: ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate, BLS, and NRP (required)
- Proficiency in Epic electronic health records
- Strong clinical skills in maternal and neonatal care
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and teamwork abilities
- Ability to manage high patient acuity with attention to detail and safety
Compensation & Benefits
