Responsibilities
Provide safe, compassionate nursing care to laboring patients, postpartum patients, and newborns while collaborating with the interdisciplinary care team. Support assessment, monitoring, delivery preparation, recovery, patient education, documentation, and emergency response throughout the assignment.
Requirements
- Patient ratio experience of 1:2.
- Epic charting experience required.
- Current ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate, BLS, FHM, and NRP certifications.
- IV therapy and phlebotomy skills, including administration of blood and blood products, drawing venous blood, maintaining central lines (CVC/PICC), starting and maintaining IVs, and using infusion pumps, drips, and IV monitoring.
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency care skills, including adult cardiac arrest, infant/neonatal arrest, and use of Rapid Response/Code teams.
- Labor and Delivery management experience with amnioinfusion, assisting with high-risk delivery, assisting with vaginal delivery, circulating for C-section, forceps/vacuum extraction, hemorrhage/shock, recovering C-section patients, scrubbing for C-section, and sterile vaginal examination.
- Experience in antepartum, high-risk antepartum, Labor & Delivery, low-risk, and Mother/Baby settings, including experience in teaching hospitals and settings with 200-300 or more than 300 facility births per month.
- Medication administration experience with anticoagulation therapy, antihypertensives, antiseizure medications, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate therapy, Pitocin (oxytocin), prostaglandins, and terbutaline.
- Neonatal care in the delivery room, including APGAR scores, ID/security banding, neonatal resuscitation, and radiant warmers/thermoregulation.
- Antepartum care and procedure skills, including assisting with sterile speculum exams for effacement, dilation, station, and presentation; NST (Non Stress Tests); OCT (Oxytocin Challenge Tests); reflex checks, edema assessment, and clonus; sterile vaginal exams; triage of obstetrical patients; and use of EFM (External Fetal Heart Monitoring).
- Ability to care for patients with asthma, cardiac disease, COVID, diabetes mellitus, HELLP Syndrome, HIV, infectious disease, malpresentations including breech, face, and brow, multiple gestation, neurological disease, placenta previa/abruptio, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, premature rupture of membranes, preterm labor, RH incompatibilities, seizure disorder, substance abuse, uterine rupture, and VBAC management/trial of labor.
- Postpartum care experience with bladder distension, Cesarean Section, couplet care, multiple births, postpartum hemorrhage, pregnancy-induced hypertension, and vaginal delivery.
- Postpartum procedure skills, including breastfeeding support/lactation support, Foley catheter insertion/management, fundus/lochia/perineum care, use of electric/manual breast pumps, and wound assessment/care.
- Surgical case and procedure experience with cervical cerclage, D & C, and tubal ligation.
- Newborn care skills, including cord care, discharge teaching to parents, infant identification, newborn assessment, newborn hypoglycemia care, and thermoregulation.

Experience
- At least 2 years of nursing experience.
- Travel nursing experience is not required. Nurses with Labor and Delivery experience must be able to function independently.
