Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for neonates across a broad range of gestational ages, including infants under 24–28 weeks, 29–34 weeks, and over 34 weeks.
- Deliver evidence-based care for high-acuity conditions, respiratory failure, and infectious disease precautions, including isolation procedures, PPE use, and neonatal sepsis workups.
- Monitor neonatal hemodynamic status with unit telemetry and provide support for invasive monitoring as clinically indicated.
- Perform and support IV therapies, including IV initiation and maintenance, arterial line care, central line care, implanted line care, and central line blood draws.
- Administer and support neonatal medications and emergency care, including vasopressors, anti-seizure medications, antibiotics, antivirals, and weight-based dosage calculations.
- Perform or assist with APGAR scoring, developmental care, neonatal emergency interventions, therapeutic cooling, and lumbar puncture procedures.
- Provide teaching and emotional support to families, including breastfeeding guidance and safe handling of expressed breast milk.
- Accurately document patient care in Epic.
Requirements
- Current BLS certification.
- NRP Advanced certification; NRP may be accepted when the candidate is willing to obtain the advanced certification before the assignment begins.
- Patient ratio experience of 1:2–3.
- Epic charting experience.
- Community hospital experience.
- Therapeutic hypothermia using a cooling blanket.
- Vapotherm and chest tube management.
- Nitric oxide (INO) therapy.
- Administration of conscious sedation.
- Attendance at high-risk deliveries.
- Mother/Baby, NICU III, and NICU IV care experience.
- Gastroschisis and omphalocele care.
- Insulin administration.
- PICC line management.
- Administration of blood and blood products.
- Arterial line management; central line blood draws; central line and implanted line care; starting and maintaining IVs; UAC and UVC care.
- Experience with anti-seizure medications, antibiotics and antivirals, IV vasopressors, neonatal dosage calculations, steroids, and surfactants.
- APGAR scoring, developmental care, patient and family teaching, phlebotomy, and thermoregulation.
- Assistance with lumbar puncture, neonatal abstinence syndrome, seizure disorders, blood glucose monitoring, hyperbilirubinemia, and phototherapy.
- Feedings by bottle, breast, and gavage; breastfeeding support and expressed breast milk handling; NEC care; and gastrointestinal tube placement and management.
- Level 1 nursery experience.

Experience
- Two years of RN experience required. Candidates with less than two years may be screened if they have Level 4 NICU experience.
- Travel nursing experience required. Candidates with at least two years of NICU experience may be screened; candidates with less than two years of NICU experience should not be screened.
