About This Position

Responsibilities
Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care across antepartum, Labor and Delivery, LDRP, postpartum, mother/baby, and newborn care settings. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team, support patients and families through delivery and recovery, document care accurately, and respond promptly to changing maternal and neonatal needs.
Requirements
- Certifications: ACLS, AWHONN Advanced (required), AWHONN Intermediate, BLS, NRP, and Relias Fetal Monitoring or AWHONN.
- IV therapy and phlebotomy: Administration of blood and blood products; drawing venous blood (required); starting and maintaining IVs (required).
- Labor and Delivery management: Amnioinfusion (required); assist with high-risk delivery; assist with vaginal delivery; circulate for C-section (required); forceps/vacuum extraction (required); hemorrhage/shock (required); recover C-section; sterile vaginal exam (required).
- Work settings: Antepartum; high-risk antepartum; Labor and Delivery; LDRP; mother/baby (required); experience in settings with approximately 200-300 births per month.
- Medication and administration: Antihypertensives; insulin drips (required); magnesium sulfate therapy; Pitocin (oxytocin); terbutaline.
- Neonatal care in the delivery room: APGAR scores; baby nurse (“baby catcher”); collect cord samples; ID/security banding; neonatal resuscitation; radiant warmers/thermoregulation.
- Newborn care: Assist with circumcision and assess the site post-operatively (required); cord care (required); discharge teaching to parents (required); neonatal abstinence syndrome (required); newborn assessment; newborn hypoglycemia (required); phototherapy (required); thermoregulation (required).
- Antepartum care and procedures: Assist with sterile speculum exam, including effacement, dilation, station, and presentation; NST (non-stress tests); reflex checks, edema assessment, and clonus; sterile vaginal exam (required); use of EFM (external fetal heart monitoring).
- Postpartum patient care: Bladder distension (required); cesarean section; couplet care; multiple births; postpartum hemorrhage; pregnancy-induced hypertension; vaginal delivery.
- Postpartum care and procedures: Breastfeeding support/lactation support (required); Foley catheter insertion and management; fundus, lochia, and perineum care; use of electric/manual breast pump (required).
- Pain management: Epidural anesthesia; general anesthesia (required); nitrous oxide (required); pain assessment and management.
- Care of patients with: HELLP syndrome (required); multiple gestation (required); pre-eclampsia/eclampsia (required); premature rupture of membranes (required); preterm labor (required); VBAC management/trial of labor (required).
- Professional topics and skills: Isolation precautions/PPE; vaccine administration (required).
- Fetal monitoring: Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns; use of external fetal monitoring; use of internal fetal monitoring (required).
