About This Position

  • Experience in settings with approximately 200-300 births per month.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care across antepartum, Labor and Delivery, LDRP, postpartum, and Mother/Baby settings.
  • Perform IV therapy and phlebotomy, including administration of blood and blood products, drawing venous blood, and starting and maintaining IVs.
  • Manage labor and delivery needs, including amnioinfusion, assisting with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, circulating for C-sections, forceps/vacuum extraction, hemorrhage/shock, C-section recovery, and sterile vaginal exams.
  • Provide medication management involving antihypertensives, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate therapy, Pitocin (oxytocin), and terbutaline.
  • Support neonatal care in the delivery room through APGAR scoring, serving as the baby nurse or “baby catcher,” collecting cord samples, ID/security banding, neonatal resuscitation, and use of radiant warmers and thermoregulation.
  • Provide newborn care including circumcision assistance and postoperative site assessment, cord care, parent discharge teaching, care for neonatal abstinence syndrome, newborn assessment, newborn hypoglycemia management, phototherapy, and thermoregulation.
  • Perform antepartum care and procedures, including sterile speculum examinations for effacement, dilation, station, and presentation; NSTs; reflex checks, edema assessment, and clonus assessment; sterile vaginal examinations; and use of external fetal heart monitoring.
  • Provide postpartum care for bladder distension, cesarean section, couplet care, multiple births, postpartum hemorrhage, pregnancy-induced hypertension, and vaginal delivery.
  • Perform postpartum procedures including Foley catheter insertion and management, fundus, lochia, and perineum care, breastfeeding and lactation support, and use of electric or manual breast pumps.
  • Support pain management involving epidural anesthesia, general anesthesia, nitrous oxide, and pain assessment and management.
  • Care for patients with HELLP syndrome, multiple gestation, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, premature rupture of membranes, preterm labor, and VBAC management or trial of labor.
  • Apply isolation precautions and PPE, administer vaccines, and recognize and treat abnormal fetal heart rate patterns.
  • Use external and internal fetal monitoring according to clinical needs.

Requirements

  • ACLS certification.
  • AWHONN Advanced certification required.
  • AWHONN Intermediate certification.
  • BLS certification.
  • NRP certification.
  • Relias Fetal Monitoring or AWHONN certification.
  • Follow AWHONN Standards.
