Responsibilities

• Deliver direct NICU patient care, including attending high-risk deliveries
• Provide mother/baby support and neonatal care across NICU III and NICU IV level settings
• Manage IV therapy, including starting and maintaining IVs, administering blood & blood products, and performing central line/implanted line care and central line blood draws
• Support invasive access and line-based tasks, including arterial line management, UAC (Umbilical Artery Catheter), UVC (Umbilical Vein Catheter), and PICC line management
• Administer and manage neonatal medications and emergency medications, including anti-seizure medications, antibiotics/antivirals, IV vasopressors, steroids, and surfactants
• Perform neonatal dosage calculations and provide care related to conscious sedation
• Provide developmental care and education for patients/families, including breastfeeding support and handling of breast milk
• Support feeding plans (bottle, breast, gavage) and manage GI conditions such as gastroschisis/omphalocele and NEC
• Assist with airway and respiratory care, including bubble CPAP, HFNC, high-frequency ventilation, Vapotherm (required), ventilator management (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BIPAP/PEEP), suctioning (ETT/NT), and management of chest tubes (required)
• Monitor and support cardiovascular status, including dysrhythmia interpretation/management, invasive hemodynamic monitoring, and telemetry on the unit monitoring
• Implement infection control measures, including isolation precautions/PPE
• Support neonatal sepsis care, including sepsis work up
• Perform neurologic interventions and support, including APGAR scoring, assistance with lumbar puncture, management related to neonatal abstinence syndrome, seizure disorders, and therapeutic hypothermia/cooling blanket (required)
• Monitor endocrine/metabolic needs, including blood glucose monitoring, hyperbilirubinemia, insulin administration (required), and phototherapy
• Manage endocrine/metabolic therapies and related neonatal care across patient types including neonates < 24–28 weeks, 29–34 weeks, and > 34 weeks
• Use Epic charting system to document and track care

Requirements

• At least 1:2-3 patient ratio experience
• Charting system: required experience with Epic
• Community hospital experience: required
• Travel experience: required (screening may consider 2+ years NICU experience)
• NICU experience level: if less than 2 years of RN experience, but has level 4 NICU experience, candidates can still screen
• Certifications: BLS (required)
• Certifications: NRP Advanced (required) (NRP will be allowed if willing to obtain advanced NRP before start)
• Therapeutic hypothermia/cooling blanket (required)
• Conscious sedation (required)
