Responsibilities
- Manage Labor and Delivery workflow, including high-risk delivery support
- Support vaginal deliveries and assist during procedures including C-sections
- Perform sterile vaginal exams
- Assist with forceps/vacuum extraction
- Respond to hemorrhage/shock and support recovery for C-sections
- Provide postpartum care, including couplet care and multiple birth support
- Deliver postpartum hemorrhage care and support management of pregnancy-induced hypertension
- Provide cesarean and vaginal delivery postpartum care
- Support bladder care including assessment for bladder distension
- Support breastfeeding and lactation care
- Provide episiotomy/incisional care
- Insert and manage Foley catheter as needed
- Complete fundus/lochia/perineum care
- Assist with electric/manual breast pump use
- Perform wound assessment/care
- Participate in pain management support, including epidural/general anesthesia support and opioid/pain assessment
- Support use of nitrous oxide (required) for pain management
- Provide neonatal care in the delivery room, including APGAR scoring
- Support “baby catcher” responsibilities, cord sample collection, and ID/security banding
- Support neonatal resuscitation and thermoregulation using radiant warmers
- Perform newborn assessment and support newborn hypoglycemia care
- Perform fetal monitoring, including recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Use external fetal monitoring as required
- Support IV therapy including starting and maintaining IVs
- Provide obstetrical triage as needed
- Assist with surgical cases, including tubal ligation
- Follow isolation precautions/PPE and support vaccine administration
Requirements
- 3 years of experience in a high acuity & high pace environment (required)
- Patient ratio experience: 1:1–2
- Charting system: Epic (required)
- Certifications: ACLS (required)
- Certifications: AWHONN Advanced (required)
- Certifications: BLS
- Certifications: NRP
- Clinical skill readiness includes nitrous oxide (required)
- Travel experience: not required
