Responsibilities
Provide safe, compassionate nursing care for patients in a progressive-care setting, monitor changing clinical conditions, collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team, respond to emergencies, and document care accurately in the electronic health record.
Requirements
- ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Epic charting experience required
- Respiratory skills: BiPAP/CPAP management; chest tubes using Emerson/PleurEvac; high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC); interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs); nasal cannula; non-invasive airway management; oxygen administration; oxygen tanks; and tracheostomy care/management
- IV therapy and phlebotomy skills: blood product administration; central line care/management; peripheral line care/management; PICC line management; and starting and maintaining IVs
- Work-setting experience with cardiac telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/stepdown, and telemetry
- Genitourinary and renal skills: continuous bladder irrigation (CBI); pre/post hemodialysis management; renal failure; renal transplant; and TURP
- Neurological and psychiatric experience with CVA (cerebrovascular accident), seizure disorders, substance withdrawal, and traumatic brain injury
- Medication management skills: epidural analgesia; heparin protocols; cardiac drips without titration; vasoactive drips without titration; PCA; titration of cardiac drips; and titration of vasoactive drips
- Feeding tube care and management
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency response skills: interpretation and management of dysrhythmias; telemetry with on-unit monitoring; telemetry with remote monitoring; and use of rapid response/code teams
- Isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac experience
- Endocrine and metabolic skills: IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
- Cardiovascular skills: pacemakers, including temporary and permanent; post-cardiac angiogram care; post-MI care; pre/post cardiac catheterization; pre/post cardiac surgery; sheath removal; and TR Band management
- Plastics-related skills: skin grafts and surgical drains

Experience
- At least 1 year of nursing experience
- Experience caring for a patient ratio of 1:4–5
- Previous charge experience preferred
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Travel nursing experience is not required
