Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, compassionate nursing care to patients in a PCU/stepdown setting.
- Perform patient assessments, recognize changes in condition, and communicate clinical findings appropriately.
- Coordinate care with the interdisciplinary team and support patient and family education.
- Administer treatments and medications according to orders, policies, and applicable protocols.
- Document patient care accurately and maintain timely clinical records.
- Respond effectively to urgent patient needs and participate in emergency response procedures.
Requirements
- Active RN licensure appropriate for the assignment.
- ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required.
- Epic charting experience required.
- Patient ratio experience of 1:4-5.
- Respiratory skills: BiPAP/CPAP management; chest tubes, including Emerson/PleurEvac; High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC); interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs); nasal cannula; non-invasive airway management; oxygen administration; oxygen tanks; and tracheostomy care/management.
- IV therapy and phlebotomy skills: blood product administration; central line care/management; peripheral line care/management; PICC line management; and starting and maintaining IVs.
- Work setting experience with cardiac telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/stepdown, and telemetry.
- Genitourinary and renal experience with continuous bladder irrigation (CBI); pre/post hemodialysis management; renal failure; renal transplant; and TURP.
- Neurological and psychiatric experience with CVA (cerebrovascular accident), seizure disorders, substance withdrawal, and traumatic brain injury.
- Medication management skills including epidural analgesia; heparin protocols; cardiac drips without titration; vasoactive drips without titration; PCA; titration of cardiac drips; and titration of vasoactive drips.
- Feeding tube care and management.
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency response skills including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias; telemetry with on-unit monitoring; telemetry with remote monitoring; and use of rapid response/code teams.
- Isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac experience.
- Endocrine and metabolic skills including IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips.
- Cardiovascular experience with pacemakers, temporary/permanent; post cardiac angiogram; post MI; pre/post cardiac cath; pre/post cardiac surgery; sheath removal; and TR Band.
- Plastics experience with skin grafts and surgical drains.
